How to Drop the Oil Pan in a Toyota Corolla

    • 1). Use a jack and jack stands to raise and support the car. The jack's manufacturer provides information on how to do this safely.

    • 2). Drain the oil from the Corolla by locating the oil pan under the vehicle, about half way between the two tires on the bottom of the engine. Place an oil drip pan under the oil pan, use a wrench to dislodge the oil pan plug from the back of the oil pan, and then allow the oil to drain for at least ten minutes.

    • 3). Open the hood of the vehicle and use a wrench to disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery box which is positioned at the very front of the engine. In vehicles with an air bag, wait at least 90 seconds before moving on.

    • 4). Slide under the car and use a wrench to remove the under cover of the vehicle, removing each of the bolts holding it in place. Then use the wrench to remove the front exhaust pipe, which is located over the oil pan.

    • 5). Remove the oil pan bolts and nuts from around the outer edge of the oil pan. Remove each bolt in a crisscross pattern by removing one bolt then removing a bolt on the opposite side of the oil pan. Support with your hand to avoid dropping the pan.

    • 6). Cut off any of the applied sealer on the edge of the oil pan and the engine block that may remain once the oil pan drops off.
