- 1). Disconnect the battery by removing the wire from the negative battery terminal with a wrench. Disconnecting the battery protects you from electric shock while connecting the lights.
- 2). Screw in the mounting brackets for your neon lights. If you are mounting lights under the car, place them so that they cannot be seen directly. Some states have laws specifying that neon underlights must be covered as well as unlit in certain locations. If you are installing interior lights, they are typically mounted under the dashboard, high enough that they cannot be kicked. If you are mounting the neon lights onto the chassis, then you must first drill a hole for the screws.
- 3). Mount the transformer, if your neon light kit includes a transformer, somewhere either under the hood near the battery or underneath the dashboard. Drill holes for it if mounting it to the chassis.
- 4). Attach the power line coming out of the lights (or transformer if the lights have one) to the switch and mount the switch on or near the dashboard for easy access.
- 5). Connect the other side of the switch to the connector wire with the inline fuse. Attach the other end of this wire to the positive terminal of your car’s battery.
- 6). Screw the ground wire coming out of the neon lights (or transformer) anywhere onto the chassis of your car. Make sure that it has a solid connection.
- 7). Reconnect the car battery. Test that the lights work and that all the connections you made are secure.
